As everybody knows perceived experts in any field are closely watch and highly regarded. Online entrepreneurs are no different in how they regard any perceived internet marketing guru. This faith in their knowledge is never more evident than during any new product launch. Typically any new release has everybody scrambling to purchase the latest software, system or strategy. The problem here is that most of these products are new &#8216;discoveries&#8217; that go counter to previous products that they sold. Online entrepreneurs now find themselves taking a whole new direction in their business thereby walking away from any previously invested efforts. </p>
<p>Let&#8217;s have a look at the product launch &#8216;cycle&#8217; can cause online entrepreneurs to continue changing directions leading to an increase in frustration and a decrease in their results.</p>
<p><strong>&#8216;Guru&#8217;s&#8217; Change Direction</strong></p>
<p>Every new product launch &#8216;presents&#8217; a different or improved version of the way we are currently conducting business. Of course whatever is being presented has to be different otherwise there would be little incentive for people to make the purchase.</p>
<p><strong>We the &#8216;Rats&#8217; Follow Them</strong></p>
<p>Generally the promotional process involves explaining the need for the change being introduced. As a result the current tactics being used are criticized and dismissed as being ineffective, much like the previous product launch. In essence it is time for us to change direction in the way we do things and start over, again.</p>
<p><strong>Their Products Are Purchased</strong></p>
<p>Of course after the convincing reasons as to why the change is needed to be made, people abandon their  &#8216;former&#8217; approach, purchase the &#8216;updated&#8217; product and begin a new cycle. All is not lost however, since the product creator has (once again) made a profit!</p>
<p><strong>New Efforts Are Invested</strong></p>
<p>Now people redirect their focus and efforts on implementing or utilizing their new product purchase. Needless to say previous efforts are now forgotten as is the loss of time and energy that has been invested. A fresh start is being made with renewed enthusiasm and hope until &#8230;</p>
<p><strong>New &#8216;Guru&#8217; Discovery</strong></p>
<p>Online entrepreneurs are greeted with yet another &#8216;recent&#8217; discovery where  another marketing guru has once again &#8216;cracked the code&#8217; and uncovered another flaw in the current system. At this point people listen to the pitch, make the purchase, and start all over again. Lost in their freshly stoked enthusiasm is the fact that their inconsistent efforts are doing little towards gaining them significant results in their businesses.</p>
<p>Internet marketing experts carry much influence with online entrepreneurs so much so that people are willing and eager to purchase every new product the experts create. It is typical that with every new product launch by a high profile marketing guru, people line up to purchase and use whatever has been created. Sometimes however, whatever is being promoted goes completely counter to a product previously  created. This can result in a complete change of direction for many businesses resulting in the loss of any gains made or efforts invested. Now this is not to say this is the case every time but more to note the influence the well regarded marketing guru possesses. It is up to the individual to find the helpful nuggets as they are presented but it does not always require complete or wholesale changes. Internet marketing will continue to evolve and we as marketers must be willing to do the same, but this can and in most cases, should be done a little bit at a time.</p>

<p>That&#8217;s an awkward question to answer. The matter has been the subject of entire books. It&#8217;s dependant on what kind of practice you have, where you are, where you&#8217;re trying to take your firm, and of course, your persona. This is just a quick abstract to kick-start you. In the end you&#8217;ll want to develop a marketing strategy fitting to your talents.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Network marketing is not a quick fix, but it&#8217;s imperative that you get started on it right from the get-go.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Networking may be the life&#8217;s blood of any successful firm, but it&#8217;s a long term strategy. Take the time to cultivate prospects. It might be frustrating and pointless at first, but as the years pass and high quality prospects start calling you&#8217;ll be pleased you did it. In general the most intelligent, wisest business owners rely on networking to find their accountants.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>In the meantime there are a lot of rank and file clients to be had, but there are also a lot of accountants competing for them. When you first get started these people will form the bulk of your client base. These clients are what used to be called &#8220;walk-ins&#8221;.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Ten years ago direct marketing was very effective, but times have changed. Direct marketing is pretty much useless these days. Spare yourself some grief and just take my word for it, but if you insist on giving it a try don&#8217;t waste a lot of time on it. Track down recently issued business licenses in your area and try to contact the owners by phone. For quite a few years I made a a respectable living out of this strategy. It just doesn&#8217;t work these days, though. I don&#8217;t recommend it.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Get yourself some business cards (with web address and tag line) and network your butt off. Give them to everyone. And don&#8217;t forget the tag line. Every time you hand someone your card give them a reason to visit your site. Don&#8217;t be shy. Get cards. Just ask for them. Get phone numbers and email addresses. Once you have them, cultivate them. Sign them up for your newsletter. Send them an Email wishing them a happy thanksgiving.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>In my admittedly biased opinion the internet is one of the best sources of clients. Get a good website and a monthly email newsletter. SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is a lot of work and very slow and expensive, but it&#8217;s also an AWESOME prospect magnet. For the long term it&#8217;s worth investing in. For short term just buy <span class='bm_keywordlink'><a href="http://www.flashadcreator.com">ad</a></span> space on Google using Google Adwords. Also, get your business on Google Maps and optimize your site for Google Places (Local search). This will probably also require some investment on your part, but local search is a let cheaper and easier to get a good ranking in than old-school SEO. Expect a one-time cost of about $500.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>So how can websites help accountants network?</p>
<p> </p>
<p>The basic strategy of networking is to identify a prospects need, then to offer a solution to fill that need. It&#8217;s all about demonstrating the benefit of your service to the prospect. As an accountant you&#8217;re in a unique position to offer solutions to problems that really matter to people. Perhaps they&#8217;re buying or selling a house. Maybe they&#8217;re saving for their children&#8217;s education, or retirement, or maybe they&#8217;re not certain if they should buy or lease an expensive piece of equipment for their business.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Don&#8217;t misunderstand the purpose of this kind of marketing. Prospects will almost never be so impressed with that value that they&#8217;ll fire their CPA and hire you right there on the spot. It won&#8217;t rack up billable hours for your firm. Networking is a long term marketing strategy. The goal of your networking efforts is to demonstrate your value to the prospect. You&#8217;re trying to put your brand in front of the prospect and keep it there so that in a year, or two, or five; when the prospect is ready to switch accountants; yours will be the first name they think of.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>A good CPA website can significantly impact your networking power. Online financial calculators and a libraray of financial articles will bring visitors back to your website over and over. As we&#8217;ve already established, when networking your job is to figure out what that persons needs are and demonstrate your value by presenting a solution. Your website can help with that. Next time you hand a prospect your business card you can offer a solution that takes them to your website, complete with your brand at the top of the page and your phone number at the bottom.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Learn the art of the Tag Line. Nobody is going to call you or even visit your website unless you give them a compelling reason to.</p>

<p>These &#8220;walk-ins&#8221; will pretty much take care of themselves if you do a good job setting up your website. All you really need to do is keep a close eye on your Adwords account. Make sure your ads are appearing towards the top of the page. You&#8217;re position on Google&#8217;s search results is important. Think of it as the modern equivalent of your office location.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Once you&#8217;re set-up get back to networking.</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Learn to use online social networks too. LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook&#8230;</p>
<p> </p>
<p>In the end, though, it&#8217;s all about networking. Everyone is a potential prospect. Parents, friends, vendors, everyone. Be careful not to judge prospects. That&#8217;s a trap. Nobody is too poor for a business card. In 5 or 6 years they may well be standing someplace very different.</p>

If they <strong>had</strong> been approached, some 106 million people said they would have joined if the invitation was from a brand they knew and trusted.</p>
<p>Mr. Hasen goes on to theorize that on the whole marketers are as yet unwilling to deviate from the tried-and-true practices of the <span class='bm_keywordlink'><a href="http://www.flashadcreator.com/animated-examples.html">advertising</a></span> industry. He then gives some examples of companies who have experienced success in novel approaches to mobile <span class='bm_keywordlink'><a href="http://www.flashadcreator.com/features-of-the-flash-ad-creator.html">marketing</a></span> campaigns including HBO, Target and Dairy Queen. These large brand names are not only adding text marketing techniques to their advertising programs, they&#8217;re excelling at it.</p>
<p>Ad strategy can be straight-forward SMS marketing: customers opt-in to receive monthly coupons and specials; or it can be a staggered approach. In the latter, the marketer offers the chance to win a prize through a draw. Those who text in to enter the draw receive an invitation to join a customer-loyalty program or some other type of club. When HBO ran their two-tier text marketing campaign, almost 70 percent of those who received the invitation did opt in to join.</p>
<p>Every marketer will agree that repeat and loyal customers need to be cultivated and should be rewarded for their ongoing business. If brands don&#8217;t recognize the importance of mobile marketing and learn how to use it effectively, they stand to lose out on two counts. The first is that they are missing an entire stream of potential customers who have either never heard of the brand or heard of it but not shopped there. The second is that they are not utilizing a simple and effective method of direct client communication which can help nurture the allegiance of current customers.</p>

<p>In my experience, the first and most important question that needs to be answered is &#8220;Why&#8221;. Ask yourself &#8220;Why are you (or have you) decided to venture into Internet Marketing?&#8221; There can be many viable answers to this question. However, if your response to the question sounds like any of the following, then a huge red flag should go up:</p>
<p>I&#8217;m looking for a way to&#8221;Get Rich Quick&#8221;.<br />
I need a way to generate extra income really fast to pay bills.<br />
I want a way to make big money from home in my spare time.<br />
I hear about programs where I can make six figures a month in three months time by working from home a few hours a week. That&#8217;s for me!<br />
I have no experience in computers or marketing. I just want a program that will do the work for me and make me lots of money.<br />
I have very little money to budget for a business, but I understand I can start a lucrative marketing business on the internet for next to nothing.</p>
<p>If your reason to start an Internet Marketing Business is one of those above or similar, you should take some time and really learn more about what you are getting into. If you&#8217;ve already been in business you likely are not making a profit and have been struggling. This is the point where you need to have what I will call, an &#8220;Honest Reality Check&#8221; with yourself. In all my years in business, traditional and internet, I have found the people who succeed do so because they are passionate about their business and committed to putting in the time and effort necessary to do so. It takes hard work, time and some capital to be a success in any business. The amount of capital will vary with the type of business.  In Internet Marketing, you can start with a relatively small budget, or a larger budget, depending on your finances and other variables which I will get into a little later.</p>
<p>To be bluntly honest, and to repeat myself, it is going to take a lot of hard work and time committed to your new business to make it work. There is no magic formula that will produce &#8220;tons&#8221; of money with little work on your part. If you possess marketing and computer skills, ie: developing web pages, a knowledge of html etc. , you will have a head start. But even if you are completely new to Internet Marketing with minimal computer skills, you can become very successful. You first need to understand what you are getting into and what you will need to do to develop and grow your new business.</p>
<p>It is not my intention to dissuade anyone from starting an Internet Marketing Business, or deciding to quit their existing marketing business. But I feel that I must be totally honest in an effort to keep someone from wasting time and hard earned money.</p>
<p>Now for the good part! <strong>Internet Marketing can be a highly lucrative and profitable business venture. </strong>There are thousands of entrepreneurs who are making a good living through the internet. Many of those are making a highly lucrative income. Are there people who are making six figures a month? Absolutely. The one thing that ties all these people together is a true passion for their business. &#8220;If you don&#8217;t love what you are doing, you most likely won&#8217;t be successful doing it.&#8221;</p>
<p>Now that we&#8217;ve gotten past the hard part, and you can honestly say <strong>&#8220;I&#8217;m ready to start my own  Internet Marketing Business&#8221;</strong>, let&#8217;s dig in and get to work.</p>
<p><strong>1. What is &#8220;Internet Marketing&#8221;? </strong>(It&#8217;s a great question, especially if you&#8217;ve decided to make a living at it!)</p>
<p>The simple definition would be -<strong> &#8220;Internet Marketing&#8221;</strong>,  also referred to as i-marketing, web-marketing, online-marketing or e-Marketing, <strong>is</strong> <strong>the marketing of products or services over the Internet.</strong></p>
<p>Internet marketing ties together creative and technical aspects of the Internet, including: <span class='bm_keywordlink'><a href="http://www.flashadcreator.com/non-animated-examples.html">design</a></span>, development, <span class='bm_keywordlink'><a href="http://www.flashadcreator.com/animated-examples.html">advertising</a></span>, and sales. Lower costs of dissemination of information (advertising) and a global audience are its main advantages.</p>
<p>The Internet has opened up this global audience of prospective buyers. The interactive nature of Internet marketing in terms of providing instant responses and eliciting responses are the unique qualities of the medium. Most established companies are fighting to get a leg up on their competition using web marketing strategies to increase traffic to their company&#8217;s homepage. Internet marketing helps add potential customers and the number of quality leads to a website as well. In fact, most organizations can adopt Internet marketing and advertising strategies to generate better business. Internet marketing not only refers to marketing on the Internet, but also includes marketing done via e-mail and wireless media. Management of digital customer data and electronic customer relationship management (ECRM) systems are also often grouped together under internet marketing.</p>
<p>As you can see, now that we&#8217;ve defined &#8220;Internet Marketing&#8221;, the next logical question is &#8220;What product or service are you going to market?&#8221;.</p>

<p>I would recommend outlining your financial steps, strategies and expectations prior to publishing your book. Keep in mind even the best laid out plans will omit unforeseen expenses – so set money aside.</p>
<p>For example, my friend wrote, Francesca of Lost Nation, and decided to publish it under her own business, luckycinda. A business license, at least in California, is pricey. We also had to pay for a web hosting site and a domain name – there are free services but I still think it is best to have your own. After the printing and shipping costs of the book, there are still other fees to consider:</p>
<p>Book signings – If invited out of town, you need to determine how many miles you want to travel that would make it feasible if you only sell three or four books. If you need to stay overnight, you will also have to factor in lodging and dining costs.<br />
Book festivals – You are required to have a seller license which will cost you money and you will also be charged for the right to have a table or booth at the event. While book festivas tend to draw book readers, there is no guarantee that they will purchase your book. </p>
<p>These are just two examples of expenses that can be incurred when promoting your book. Since your budget restraints differ than mine and the type of book you are circulating may be for a different audience, it&#8217;s important you jot down the type of expenses you might expect for your marketing plan and incorporate that into your own business plan.</p>
<p><strong>Non-traditional marketing methods</strong></p>
<p>Traditional <span class='bm_keywordlink'><a href="http://www.flashadcreator.com/animated-examples.html">advertising</a></span> if you have lots of money is still a good method of promoting your book but the competition is fierce. If you don&#8217;t have a name people recognize you will be buried in the &#8220;book&#8221; pile. So you have to starting thinking of unique angles you can draw from your story to promote your book.</p>
<p>For example, Francesca of Lost Nation&#8217;s main character is a 59-year-old woman who is known as a county fair car race driver. In the story, she meets up with a man who owns a Duesenberg and she convinces him to let her drive in a race.</p>
<p>The story, however, isn&#8217;t about that. It is an adventure fiction that takes place in the late 1940s in Iowa where Francesca and her doting granddaughter team with barn-storming pilots to capture a wanted felon.</p>
<p>However, I could use the storyline subplots as angles to pitch the book. Here&#8217;s some &#8220;unconventional book marketing&#8221; ideas using the Duesenberg angle:</p>
<p><strong>a.</strong> I could contact Duesenberg enthusiast by looking up clubs, blogs or organizations online and offering the book directly.</p>
<p><strong>b.</strong> Maybe a car club would be interested in buying the books and offering them as gifts to new subscribers or club members.</p>
<p><strong>c.</strong> I could video a 59-year-old woman behind the wheel of a Dussenberg and make a mini-commercial to post on YouTube.</p>

<p><strong>Set a promotion timeline:</strong></p>
<p>Marketing your book takes time and money. I would advise establishing one to two goals a month. Here&#8217;s some examples:</p>
<p>Two out-of-town book signings – Estimate lodging, fuel and dining costs<br />
Annual Book Festivals – pick one or two a year<br />
Look for unlikely sources of promotion – groups you can speak to that have nothing to do with publishing or reading. Do you have a history book and maybe people at a Historic Society or Rotary Club might like to hear about it.<br />
Find enticers – can you offer free guides, small gifts or event tickets to drive sales? </p>
<p><strong>Find the right audience:</strong></p>
<p>If you wrote a book about trains go to that audience. For example: Train shops, museums and parks. Contact train clubs, groups and organizations.You can also look up train magazines and newsletters.</p>
<p>The challenge of book marketing, book promotion and book selling is immense but the possibilities are endless if you&#8217;re willing to invest into the process.</p>
